Rancho Margot: self sufficient
Organic ranch and animal rescue center

On the shores of Lake Arenal and the valley of the Caño Negro river, surrounded by the Children Eternal Forest and Arenal National Park is located Rancho Margot.

HORSEBACK RIDING TOURS at Rancho Margot/ Mirador

Our tour begins with picking you up in your hotel and driving you to Lake Arenal. We will begin our tour showing you the Ranch and explaining to you about the different efforts in Biodiversity conservation and sustainable tourism that takes place at the Ranch.

Route description: the landscape is 50% flat and 50% uphill and downhill. The tour goes on gravel road and pasture grounds. You will be able to enjoy the amazing views from our Mirador to the Arenal Volcano, Rain Forest and Lake Arenal.

Difficulty: The tour was designed for beginners.

Tour includes. Saddled horses, helmet, poncho, snack, information on the local flora and fauna, and entrance fee to the butterfly garden or the Serpentarium.

What to bring: wear long pants and hiking shoes. Bring bathing suit, towel, repellent, poncho, camera, binoculars and plenty of film.

Duration: Half day tour 4 hours approximately.


Nature History Walk to Arenal Mundo Aventura

A new World to be explored in the Tropical Rain Forest!!!

Get started with a rich and educational Natural History Walk on our Private Reserve located at only 1.5 Km (1 mile) away from Fortuna down-town.

Enjoy the beauty on this eco-system and learn with us about insects, birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and the complex synchronized function of the Tropical Rain Forest.

Our certified naturalist guide will accompany you along during a 2 hour exploration walk through paving trails.

The trail consist of 1 Km (half mile) through the Gallery Forest, a type of forest associated to water flows such as rivers, creeks, lagoons and lakes; conformed by trees that grow and develop at the edge of the river, expanding branches on top of the water, protecting and using it in many different ways.

The Gallery Forest hosts many organisms related to the water sources, by especially as a shelter for the river’s biodiversity.

What to wear: long pants, insect repellent, sunscreen lotion, binoculars, hiking boots, poncho and camera.

Departure time AM: 8:00 a.m.

Departure time PM: 1:00 p.m.


Don Juan Eco-Farm

Located 5 minutes fro Fortuna we will take you to Finca Burio, own by Don Juan, the real Costa Rican farmer. Just to say hi and talk to this character if worse the tour. As soon as we arrive he will give us a tour of all the plantations, fruits you never seen in a supermarket and all the uses for coking, health benefits and industrial uses. A paradise for birds in the wild because the design of the land and the plantation atractthem in a natural way, so will experience real rainforest forest wildlife.

In the same property they have a “trapiche” you will see from first hand the process of sugar cane, drink it and enjoy the more process sugar cane liquor: “guaro”

After this nice day of proper use of the land and enjoy creation you will have the healthiest, organic and delicious lunch done by Don Juan’s wife.

Tour includes: door to door minivan A/C service, certified bilingual guide, entrance fee to the farm tour and lunch.

What to bring: comfortable clothing and shoes, raincoat, camera and insect repellent.
